Cozmo Thinks He Owns the World

Good morning all. Just have a couple of question that maybe others experience can help me with. Cozmo just turned one, has been through basic 1, basic 2, Leash Manners, and has his level 1 (of 3) CGC certificate, and is scheduled to do more classes, I love training with him and he loves treats. Cozmo however insists on barking at strangers when we are in the front yard, or in the vehicle. I use treats in the vehicle to distract him, same when we are in the yard (yes in front he is on a leash until I can really trust him). I can take him to all the major stores, Home Depot, Lowes, Pet Smart, etc. and he doesn't bark at anyone, but for some reason in the neighborhood or vehicle, he thinks everyone is a threat. So my questions are: Is this a one year old thing that he will grow out of? If you have experienced this, were you able to correct it and if so how? I think his bark/growl is more show, but if I didn't know the dog, I wouldn't feel comfortable. I want to get him to where he gives me the "alert" bark of someone is there, but then stops when I acknowledge. (Yes I may be asking for to much, but this is my first Lab and I don't know the limits yet!). Thanks in advance.

Try training a look at that response. He looks maybe barks once and as soon as he looks back at you reward him. That way he knows you heard him. The other option is to have a solid recall so that when he barks you can call him and reward him for stopping. Hope that helps

Thank you for the feedback. Definitely still working on the recall. Pretty strong but not bullet proof by any means. I have a key word "Bingo" when training where he gets his reward. I have been working on that in the car, just sometimes difficult while driving. I plan on going and sitting in front of home depot on saturday and let work on it. Thanks again.
